Scope

Refurbishment of drinking water installation according to VDI 6023 (German drinking water ordinance)

The Project

RWE AG, with over 70,000 employees and revenue of 47 Billion Euros, is one of the leading energy supply companies in Europe. For over 11 decades, the group’s head offices have been situated in Essen, Germany.

Task

In the beginning of 2009, a legionella bacterial contamination emerged from microbiological examinations of drinking water from the central administration pipe system built in 1980.

Having successfully completed many projects in this area, Lodewick GmbH. was awarded the work of decontaminating the drinking water system. Based on an assessment of the exact current status with the resulting solution, Lodewick GmbH is currently implementing the following decontamination measures in compliance with VDI 6023:

1) Customisation of the entire drinking water system
2) Removal of all unused pipeline sections
3) Changeover from centralised to decentralised water heaters
4) Separation of fire extinguisher system from drinking water system
5) Hydraulic regulation of the entire system.
